Came across this blank national guard helmet which without all the pieces seems hard to discern the make and age and due to the fact that the inside label seems very new looking had me skeptical as to what it's origins could be. There are No label maker marks inside according to the pictures.

Original. Regular army issued helmet bodies will have the quartermaster mark inside the sweatband. The size label is typical of all hats of this period and I am betting this example is from the 1902 contract of helmet bodies that were very common in surplus for many years. If you will spend some time and search through the posts of this forum you will find many answers to some of your questions on militaria of this period.

Did you check under the sweatband? These model 1881 helmets are generally stamped with contract information.

Your helmet appears to be a federal pattern not the typical national guard pattern. The national guard pattern almost always was made over cork and had vents on the side. Yours is crushed felt typical of the federal patterns. Inside the sweatband should have a date stamp.
