Bob Hudson Posted August 30, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2017 This is missing the buttplate and the bolt (and maybe other parts) but it had some paper rolled up inside the hole in the butt:
Bob Hudson Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted August 30, 2017 There are two names on the paper and it turns out they are brothers. The one who's name is easy to read joined during Korea, but the other one enlisted in 1942: His brother:
Bob Hudson Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2017 Was there an occupation force in Hirosaki? I read it was once a big Japanese Army garrison.

Bob Hudson Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted August 30, 2017 The buttplate apparently was glued to a Japanese helmet and stayed with the helmet when it was separated. The bolt must've bolted too.
Bob Hudson Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted August 30, 2017 This is an early production Type 99 from the Tokyo Juki Manufacturing Association (now in partnership with Sony) Arsenal and it has a very low serial number: 00681. The chrysanthemum was ground off (it would have been above the hole in the above photo).
USCapturephotos Posted August 30, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 30, 2017 Really enjoyed looking at this Bob. A friends grandfather brought home a Japanese anti-aircraft shell home from Guam. Years after the veteran had passed, my friend unscrewed the fuse in the nose of the round and found a piece of paper rolled inside with a cryptic message...presumably from his grandfather. Thanks again for sharing. Paul
