milsurp_scout_14 Posted August 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 20, 2017 Hit several antique and surplus stores, and came away with some killer newer gear. Nice London Bridge Trading Co medical/combat/patrol pack, and LBT Co load bearing vest (these were used by some unit, but I can't quite pin down who). Tag is quite washed out. milsurp_scout_14 Posted August 20, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted August 20, 2017 Here's a USMC gas mask carrier. Actually makes for a great general purpose pouch, although it does mount sideways. Finally, a Carrier, Chaplain's Kit in DCU--first I've ever seen! Looks like they took the MOLLE 200rd SAW pouch and reworked it with sling rings, different Fastex buckle, and a strip of ALICE compatible webbing on the back. warbird15 Posted August 20, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2017 That's some great gear you picked up! I've got a chaplains pouch in woodland but I've never seen one in DCU. Very nice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Celduin Posted August 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2017 Agreed, nice kit! The local surplus stores are awash with the same LBT load-bearing harness you show, but I haven't figured out which branch used them. Got any ideas?
milsurp_scout_14 Posted August 23, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted August 23, 2017 Well, as near as I can tell from further puttering around online, this was the early version of the Air Force Security Forces Defensor Fortis Load Carrying System vest--as in back in 2004 when it was first issued. They were still wearing the woodland uniforms back then, so the early versions were made in ranger green. There's been several manufacturers involved in making the gear--Eagle, GCS, and evidently LBT. They're on at least Gen 3 now. I believe that's what these vests were from, because I started seeing them at my stores around 2010-2011...and then this most recent batch. The only thing I haven't found is a definitive link that LBT had a contract to produce the stuff; LBT does make small batches of gear for units, but the number of these I've seen makes me feel there was a large contract involved. Anyone who knows the DFLCS able to confirm that LBT did indeed make vests for that system?
Longbranch Posted August 23, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 23, 2017 I've seen several DFLCS vests made by LBT come out of the local Air Force base, so they must have had a government contract to produce them. Other big name companies, such as Eagle, have also made them.
