Schrade Walden knife, issue or civilian?

Your knife is shown in Cole's Book III as one of the "USN-Mark 1 & Related Knives". It's No.16 on page 79. I cannot comment any further, but it's a start.

While the Navy set up the contract for these knives, it was available to other branches of the service. As I understand it this knife was the first example of this practice.

So you talked it down from $25? Sounds good to me.

Going with the "less is better" method, I used the finest steel wool I had (#0000) and lightly scraped off the surface rust and oiled the blade and pommel. I don't think it looks too bad for a 65 year old $20 knife!

Whether the specific knife had a straight guard or the more M3 like bent guard, most of the knives were delivered with a sheath that had the corner of the blade pocket cut at an angle to accommodate the bent guard. Also the number of rivets used changed.
