Named 1924-25 USMC overcoat.

I found this grouped with a few other overcoats and bought it thinking it was a WWI era overcoat. After receiving it, I saw that if differed a bit from other USMC overcoats I've handled. I looked closer and sure enough it was dated fiscal year 1924-25! I was disappointed at first, but I looked around and couldn't find any similar examples.

On top of that I found a faint name marking. I suspect this could lead to some interesting research!

Are coats of this period uncommon? I would figure there was a boatload of older surplus that would be used before anything else was made, but then my knowledge level drops off after WWI.

More markings plus an odd modification presumably to take the coat in for a smaller fellow (the coat is a rather small size indeed).

Are there any other initials? It seems to say "R" as the first initial? A really quick check of mid-1920s rolls brings up a lot of Wilson's with a first name beginning with an 'R'. I think your guy though had no middle initial, so that narrows things some. Perhaps Ray Wilson who served in 1926. I see a Raymond who served in 1927, might be the same as Ray. 1928 brings up a Raymond G. so it could be that none of those match your guy after all.

I also found this, but I'm not sure it's the same guy. The entry mentions WWI, but I did not check the WWI rolls on ancestry, just the 1923-27 because the coat was not made until 1924-25. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/145693400/raymond-wilson

The only other letter it might be is a "K" but I think R is more likely. As a matter of fact, I double checked in the sleeve and there was another marking that was far more clearly "R" Wilson.

You are right in that there are no other initials (which is odd).
