Found this footlocker at the flea market one weekend. Got it for $15!!As it turns out, the previous owner was Col. John F. Mallard, USMC, from Trenton, NC. He served from 1936 to 1965. His picture makes him look like one tough hombre! He served with the !st MarDiv on Guadalcanal, with the 4th MarDiv in the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. In the Korean War, he commanded a black (colored) outfit, but I can't locate the file I had on him that gave more specifics. Unfortunately, the footlocker was empty except for the tray when I got it.

LT Gen Paul Emrick, USAF, Ret. I got several of this man's items from different people over a years' span. Finally got his records back from the NPRC, as well as a transcript of an interview from the USAF Historical Department. Gen. Emrick had alot to do with the develpment of the B-52 bombers.

Thank you all for the kind comments. I'm just wondering what the heck I'm gonna do (or rather, what the wife is gonna force me to do) when our 8-week old baby girl starts crawling and walking. Oh, man, I almost wish she would stay like she is, but I'm sure we'll find another room in the house for my stuff when the time comes. I am starting to fear that with the way our economy is going I have to make this collection her "college fund"

One of the best collection which I have ever seen!!!!! but Hmmm you dont collect AAF and USN aviation gear also?????

Best regards,

JK

Thank you for the kind compliments! I collect just about everything US militaria, with emphasis on WWI, II and Korea. At the moment, I am focusing on Marine Corps items, but I do have an interest in AAF & Navy aviation, as well, although I have very little in the way of Naval Aviation -just a few wings.

You may enjoy these two posts regarding AAF:

I need some help with this one. I bought it, thinking it was a "Widow's Cross." But the more I think about it, the more doubtful I become. Your thoughts? I'll post some more pics to give you a better look (hopefully they are better)

If you can see in the pic, I decided to put all the Navy/MC issue medals on the right side. Doesn't really show the difference in the sizes of cases (army vs navy), but displays well. Oh, yeah; I finally got a Navy/MC issue Bronze Star w/ case and lapel pin! (Thanks, Bob!) All I need now is a wide-style ribbon bar.

I figured I would combine the General Staff ID badges with the General Staff Corps insignias for one nice big display. Probably should've taken the glass off before shooting this pic.

Thought I would pull out one of my early uniform buys and dress up Manny the mannekin. These greens came from a gun show in Charlotte, NC about 15 years or so ago. It's a complete uniform grouping named to JD Moat, D-3 (I'm assuming he was the Division Ops officer?) The greens had everything except the EGA's. The bars and Expert badges are all H&H marked. There are pants, but those aren't shown. This also came with the whites, and blues and khakis, white gloves and covers for each. I remember the seller gave me one heckuva deal with the stipulation that I not wear them and smoke pot. I was a bit put off by that remark, but after having seen how the "other half" lived at College of Charleston (other half being those not at The Citadel), that began to make more sense. Anyway, for $50 bucks, I was one happy kid.

After I finished dressing Manny, I turned off the lights and left it be. Scared the daylights out of my wife when she came down and saw it outta the corner of her eyes. I told her if she doesn't start being nicer to me, I would start putting Manny in different spots around the house at different times of the nite and day. She's been very nice, but I think she is plotting...
