y-bot Posted August 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2017 A friend found this at a garage sale and would like to find out more about it. It looks like a cross 89G and a vertical line below it is painted on the front. It's stamped 20B and the name Thomas Cooper first lieutenant is written on he band. Something after that I can't read. Thanks for any help you can give. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B277_GZyYkHQR2Z0WTQwU2ppMFk
trenchfoot Posted August 14, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2017 The helmet is actually a M1917A1. It was used very early in ww2 and before.

lamarhooten Posted August 16, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 16, 2017 I have seen this helmet up close. It looks to have a cork and painted out side like an M-1. The markings on the front are painted on with black paint and look to old and not done yesterday. Bad pic of them. A medical type cross on top, below that it looks to be an 89 G and a single vertical line not unlike a lieutenant rank. The full headband marking says 'Thomas Cooper first lieutenant U.S.A.' Looks to be all original.
