A-37 question

What was the meaning of the word "RAPS" when referring to the A-37 aircraft in Vietnam?

I saw a patch of the 8th SOS with the word after squadron.

Thanks

Apparently RAPS was the call sign for the 8th SOS (though the 8th was supposed to have another callsign but RAPS stuck), and "Ollie Maier of the 604th ACS wrote, 'As I understand it, the call sign RAPS (Dragons was already used by a Vietnamese unit) came from our first commander, Col Weber. He had a close friend whose initials were R.A.P. and he wanted to acknowledge the help he had given... thus RAPs.'"

This comes from the 8th Attack Squadron Association Website
