RMBoyer1980 Posted July 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2017 My grandfather's DD-214 states he was a Sp-3 (T) and it states he was a Sp-3 on his DD-217A. What is that and why it states two different ranks? He also states he was Corporal briefly but he may have been called a Specialist. He served in South Korea in 1954 to 1956 as a Military Police (951.10).
72psb Posted July 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2017 Probably as simple as the clerk not putting it on there. The "T" probably made no difference, used only as a further descriptor of the same rank.
Martinjmpr Posted August 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2017 Would (T) be "temporary?" Was there such a thing? SP/3 or SP-3 would be Specialist 3rd Class - If I understand the early specialist ranks that's the same pay grade as a corporal, right? Wasn't that grade 5 (i.e. 3rd from lowest enlisted grade, where the highest grade was grade 1 and the lowest was grade 7?)
