Frank@hoboken Posted July 29, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2017 Saw this labeled great coat. Has period buttons. But there mismatched which can mean someone played surgeon.
KurtA Posted July 29, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2017 Based on one of the buttons, there's a good chance it was New York Militia or National Guard.
Frank@hoboken Posted July 29, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted July 29, 2017 Indian wars era? Correct though.
Frank@hoboken Posted July 29, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted July 29, 2017 I saw the excelsior button but with the other buttons it's easy to be skeptical.

KurtA Posted July 29, 2017 Share #6 Posted July 29, 2017 I saw the excelsior button but with the other buttons it's easy to be skeptical. True, but with that color coat with red underlying lining, it has a "New York" look to it. Late 19th Century would seem to make sense. Could be some sort of school coat too. Without an original set of unaltered buttons on it, difficult to tell.
VMI88 Posted July 30, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 30, 2017 VMI uses a cadet gray overcoat with a red-lined cape. It's hard to see details of this coat from the photos but that's a possibility you could look into.
Redlegwolf Posted August 4, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 4, 2017 My NY artillery great coat is a deeper blue color, but I can assure you it is not a West Point coat.
