Pbaczuk Posted July 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 23, 2017 I have never picked one of these up until yesterday. I never knew the finish on these flak helmets was more of a fuzzy felt rather than cork paint of the M1. The fuzzy finish is in the 90s percentile. There is a pellet gun ping on it from a dumb kid. This one is just missing the drawstring. What a cool helmet.

sundance Posted July 24, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 24, 2017 Very nice. I've been looking for one of those also. Whether could swing it if I found one is another story.
Pbaczuk Posted July 24, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted July 24, 2017 Does anyone know how they did the felt paint?

sgtdorango Posted July 24, 2017 Share #10 Posted July 24, 2017 The felt paint is called Flocking...basically they paint the helmet and while the paint is still wet the flocking material...(powdered felt like material) is blown onto the wet helmet...just like those funky felt posters from the 1960s-1970s....if you google flocking maybe they show the process?....mike
Mr.Jerry Posted July 24, 2017 Share #11 Posted July 24, 2017 Nice helmet! the flocking was designed to keep the skin from freezing to it at high altitudes.

Bugme Posted July 25, 2017 Share #14 Posted July 25, 2017 Flak helmets are under appreciated. Beside the theatre modified M1's, the M-3 is my favorite.
Mr-X Posted July 27, 2017 Share #15 Posted July 27, 2017 Great pick up. I haven't managed to get one either. Quite hard to find around these parts.
