Are these class patches all Army? I'm asking as I've seen several ID'd as USAF. Not doubting your IDs, the USAF ones could be in error. I guess I'm asking how positive you are on these. Just wanting to get it right, thanks!

Anyone have the id on the 'Lucky Seventh' one? I have two cloth DI sized versions of this one and no ID. Will have to get some of my patches posted on here! Whenever I think of posting one someone else posts theirs. Haven't seen a 10th Div. Arty Obs. yet so maybe I can get it posted on here. Agree to keeping this thread locked! This is a true learning tool for all collectors. Might be the only time that some folks have seen afew of these beauties!!

The "Lucky Seventh" with the diagonal missile/rocket looking thing is the 7th Aviation Bn. it was the successor to the 7th Aviation Company. I think the Bn era started in 63'.

Cool patch. Was that a Navy or Army spotter unit?

Probably used to spot gun fire on shore?

US Navy. I think It was a detachment of HU-1. And yes, in addition to general utility work they were used as spotters for shore bombardment.

Does anyone recognize this patch? It appears to be German made from the 60's or Early 70's.

The DI is the 15th Aviation Group which was under the Seventh Army. I was wondering if the patch was a sub unit of the group or perhaps for a HQ flight element? I don't know when the DI was approved, so if it is the same unit, it could be from prior to the approval.

Just to echo what others have said, this has been a great thread with some phenomenal patches posted. Some real jaw droppers for sure :) Here is a small addition most collectors are familiar with, the 507th Transportation Detachment. The 507th was assigned to the 94th Transportation Company. Interesting that both parent and assigned unit used the same design.

Here's my contribution to an excellent thread, German made 8th Aviation Co circa early 60's (unit dates 1957-1963).

Let's keep this going....96th FA Bn Air Section. I guess they really wanted you to know how slow they thought their planes were!

36th Engineer Group (Construction) Air Section. I believe it's supposed to be a Bell H-13 helicopter with a bulldozer blade/scoop in the front.

The only reference I could find this in, which I can't find right now, id'd this as Helicopter School for RVN pilots. I'm not sure if that is a correct id.

Those exist in several color combinations. They are for progression through flight training. Here is a different colored one.

This is a Korean war insignia for the Clandestine Army Aviation Team. I have the write up on this patch from the previous collector that obtained it from the man who wore it but I have to find it. There is a lot of subtle things with this basic patch that have to do with the black cat, the red nose and green eye. I will try and share the info/misson when I find it. Its the size of your hand a jacket patch on a wool felt.I know the name sounds hokie but the patch is legit.Jeff

That's a wild one, I've never seen it before. Information like this is fantastic.

Here's a close up of the 955th FA Bn on the flight jacket.

I'm going to say it again, this is by far one of the coolest threads that has been posted here on the USMF in a very long time.
