When the Army began expanding it's fledgling Aviation Branch, it was frequently Division Artillery Aviation that existed. Here are some of the unit patches.

When new units were formed they were attached to the Transportation Corps. Called many things they were frequently Transportation Companies with identifiers such as helicopter company, light helicopter company, medium and heavy companies and simply Aviation Company. Some samples from my collection.

These early examples can be a challenge to find.

These are fantastic patches, I have never seen the Artillery Spotting patches. So, what is the yellow patch, bulldog with 36 above the rotor? This is often confused by people for a Marine helicopter patch. Thanks - Jeff

That patch is for the 36th Transportation Company formed at Fort Sill in 1957. Later moved to Hanau, Germany.

Is your 54th with the hummingbird 'textured'? I have one that is alot more '3d' than '2d', if that makes sense. One of my favorite patches! This one good looking collection you got there! It has taken me afew years to get 2 thirds of what you have here!

This 54th leans more to 3D. The blue is the "background" and everything else is thicker giving the image of depth.

I have a few of your TC company patches, but really like your KW div arty avn patches more. They are really tough to find; have a few of them, too.

Thanks for sharing all of them with us and remind collectors of the vast number of patches that are available to add to their collections.

Wow! itshistory & jwilliamsfnp you both have some outstanding aviation patches. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to see some close-ups, especially of the Korean War patches. Here's a few of mine. The first one is for the 103rd Division from the 1950's The second is the 71st Aviation Co. It was stationed in Panama from Oct 62 to Oct 66 and supported the 193rd Light Infantry Brigade. It was deactivated in Panama in 1966.

This thread just got special

I'd say, I'd also say that these are rare examples, not something seen often, like that 103rd Infantry Division Aviation Detachment pocket patch Bill K posted, his Panama based unit too.

I also agree let's see some close ups of them KW pieces. I'd like to see the 24th piece with what looks like a duck superimposed over the taro leaf.

Bill, your 103rd Division is really a neat and definitely uncommon piece. Here's one from the 103rd during the interwar years. Authorized October 14, 1922. A little under 13 years it was rescinded on June 18, 1935.

It's best if the owner is requested, shots in the dark about "KW" patches is a little ambiguous.

The 25th ID and the round one next to it with what looks like a bird in an aircraft over a red star.

I'll post some of mine. These will all be from the 40th ID. These two are Div Arty Air Section (no, I did not win the first one, already had it).

The bird is a Jayhawk and the patch is for 7th Corps. This might be a 7th Corps Aviation Section or the 67th Aviation Company which was a subordinate unit of the 16th Aviation Battalion.

The patches belong to Jeff Williams, he'll have to respond to your request.
