WWII Buddy Box- A token from the home front to those in service

I picked this "Buddy Box" up today and figured that it might be kind of rare and I cannot find any information on it. It is dated 1942 and it is obvious what it would be used for and I think that it's a pretty awesome box. What do you all think?

I wonder if these were treated like the "flat rate" boxes the post office has nowadays - shipping for the same rate no matter how much you stuffed into it.
