MP Billy Clubs/Night Sticks - Post Your Photos

Recommended Posts

Hi, All! An item that really intrigues me is the Military Constabulary "Billy Clubs" or "Night Sticks". I've seen a few over the past year or two on different posts, but whenever I try to look them up, I can never find something just about them. Every one I see is different. Some light wood, some dark, some black. Some short, some long. I thought it might be a nice thing if there was a thread where everyone could post pictures and/or history of their clubs and we could have a nice reference to different types. I would love to see them, and am sure others would, too! Any era, any make. I'm interested in all! They are hard to find pictures or information about online! If anyone knows a good website, feel free to post that as well! Thanks!

Elizabeth

Aloha Elizabeth,

These are old photos but they depict a typical WWII to Vietnam era USGI Nightstick. This particular one was used by the Navy and painted black for most of it's life but you can see the wear from years of use. It also has the standard slip-knotted leather lanyard and the US stamp on the pommel. When I come across it again, I'll shoot some better photos.

Hi Elizabeth - here are a few examples of Military Police clubs.

The top club was used by the 760th MP Bn. in the Panama Canal Zone during WWII.

Note the very long leather strap. These were theater made for the 760th.

The black club is from the 1960s - 70s

The Natural wood club is WWII - Korean War vintage

The white club with black handle I think is from the early 1960s

The bottom club with the red braid and tassel is WWI

MP25 - Thanks so very much! How fun to come back to this old thread and find so much info! I was thrilled as the notifications were coming in, and couldn't wait for a chance to come look! Amazing pics! I have an old Police billy club, and have always enojyed seeing pics. However, I've noticed that there are a lack of pics and info about them online, as far as I can find. So, many thanks for sharing! All of them in your top pic are amazing! really like the WWI one! Also, why the long strap on the Canal Zone one? I suppose there was a reason they wanted that long strap. :)

Are these hard to find, out of curiosity?

Hi Elizabeth - MP clubs show up frequently on eBay. They usually sell in the $45 to $50 range.

There are repros out there.
