KRIS FORD Posted January 23, 2018 Share #31 Posted January 23, 2018 USN Cruise Jacket flags Glad to see they use and wear the First Navy Jack again!! (I put a subdued one on my cap!) USS FORRESTAL (CV-59) W Division, Keepers of the Nuclear Dragon 1976 W Div!! When I first reported aboard CVN-73, I went to W Div..(was undesignated Airman Apprentice) but they were in process of disestablishing the WT rate..it was a small berthing (Weps Dept 1st Classes took it over after WT rate went away), and they had 2 magazines, the forward and aft SASS (?) Specially equipped for you know what.. They had a seriously cool rating symbol in my opinion! Says rate disbanded in '94..but I recall the last rated WT on board (WT3 Welker was his name) was getting out in 1993, and there were no WTs left on CVN-73, so it was absorbed by Weapons Dept (AOs) Cool guy too..he'd just have us do sweepers in the berthing and head, then post us (me and a guy that became a good friend) for the day! (we were in Newport News in drydock, so nothing really to do!) Then, the fwd SASS went to G3, and the aft became the home of the SEAL teams we had embarked on our deployments (the flight suit and MP-5 era lol) (berthing was taken by the 1st Classes..it was a sweet one too..with only 20 racks tops..nice and quiet!) Sorry for the ramble! the W Div brought back some memories!
