Info on Pres Unit Citation Pins

Recommended Posts

Are the Army and Army Air Corps purple PUC pins the same dimensions during WW2? I understand the air force one eventually became more rectangular (longer rather than wide) but did this occur after WW2, when it ceased to be the army air forces and became the air force? Please enlighten me. Could the one in the attached photo be for US Army units or US Army Air Forces of WW2?

During WWII, the Presidential Unit Citation was identical for the Army and Army Air Force. It was worn over the right breast pocket of the service jacket or Ike jacket by both. The Army Air Force did not transition to the Air Force until 1947. At some point after the creation of the Air Force the PUC was distinctively narrow, and worn on the ribbon ranks rather than the right side as with the Army. Jack
