Bluehawk Posted October 23, 2008 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2008 Hi, can anyone help out with some info on these? They look like WW2 era pieces. thanks in advance, Mike We got into this very recently, and came up with the finding that those are designated for outstanding civilian volunteer service, and (I believe) all branches have/had something similar. The two shown above are, obviously, one for Army and the other for Air Force.
RTFREY Posted October 23, 2008 Share #3 Posted October 23, 2008 FOR CIVILIAN SERVICE By an act of congress in July 1943 these were awarded for faithful & meritorious service. Each was awarded with an appropriate certificate. They were for 6 months, 10 years, & 25 years of service. Information is from a 1944 copy of INSIGNIA and DECORATIONS of the U.S. ARMED FORCES. regards, Bob Frey
Jason G Posted October 27, 2008 Share #4 Posted October 27, 2008 Seeing that one on the card is VERY cool, I can't recall seeing one of those before. General Branshaw looks like he started the war as a Colonel, he was Chief of West Coast Procurement. Looks like from 43-44 he was in charge of Material Command and was a Major General at that time.
