nreed_94 Posted June 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2017 Hey everyone, I'm looking for some opinions on this helmet. It's a WWI M1917 British made helmet with an unusual 82nd Infantry Division paint job. I already have an 82nd helmet in my collection with the more typical camouflage paint job, but this white and red (or "maroon" for those who car) is a little bit odd. Technically the division insignia was not made official until after the war, so I'd consider this more post war. I know a lot of guys painted their helmets while they waited to go home, that way they'd have a souvenir to take back from the war. Any thoughts on this particular helmet? USMC-RECON0321 Posted June 13, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 13, 2017 I don't like it. It could be the lighting or lack of close up details, but it looks like modern paint that is meant to look aged. It also appears there is plenty of rust under the paint. My gut feeling from what I can see in the one picture, is this has been painted in the last 5 years.
