Show your Rarest or Favorite piece of Field Gear!

Okay, we have a title and concept borrowed from the long-running uniform section favorite "Show your Rarest or Favorite Uniforms!" Apologies to Justin/CNY Militaria (the OP of the original Uniform thread) for the similarities, but as the saying goes 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". He had a good idea, and now it is time to try it in this section too - with a twist.

 

So all of you please feel free to post whatever your rarest/favorite (or both) pieces of field gear are. There are no limits to how many different items you can post, but I would ask that if possible, you post each item as it's own reply, rather than just take a photo of a pile of goodies. Feel free to also tell us why you happen to like the item you post, and what sets it apart from other similar items in your collection. In short, let us know why it is your favorite.

Here's my Vietnam era nylon rucksack. It's missing a few things, it's dirty, and the frame is bent nearly flat; but the markings are clear, and it took a long time to find. One of my favorite pieces. Sorry for the rough pics.

Early WWII USMC canteen cover. My Aunt found this one with an enamel canteen and a made in Japan belt at a garage sale for $5-10, if it had been more she wouldn't have bought it. The lady who sold it said it was her fathers and he was in the Army and got out of boot camp just at the end of the war, totally possible that all of it was true, just that it was his canteen he bought after WWII to go camping with.

Early WWII USMC lower pack (I forget if it is Haversack or what). Found it on eBay for $20 shipped as "surplus US army E11 bag" or something like that. Named and marked, if anybody has a lead on the name or knows what the markings mean I'd love to know!

Love this thread! Here is an early USMC D ring pack thats been camouflaged. It has a name, but sadly there were to many J.Wright's!

Here is another awesome pack! This one is named three times! Couldn't find anything on the first two, but I did find something on the third one. Its named to a Sgt who was apart of the 4th Marine Division, and was KIA.

Rare to find small little groupings like these, especially combat gear. Traded this a couple of months ago sadly. Its named to a Marine named W.E Jones.

Okay last one I promise! These are getting pretty hard to find. USMC depot shovel cover. Was lucky to find this one! Glad I could share my favorite and rarest pieces!

Here's one of my more interesting pieces,

 

USMC Haversack ID'D to Wilfred G. Amburgey of Baker Company, 2nd Raider Battalion. During the battle of Midway, he was one of the few raiders of Baker company to be sent over to Midway in the case of a Japanese counter attack. He participated in the Makin raid, the long patrol on Guadalcanal, and transferred to Easy company to take part in the battle of Bougainville. After transferring to D co, 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines he took part in the battle of Iwo Jima and was wounded on D-Day via gunshot wound.

He passed in 2014.

 

His name in the pack written in purple as seen in many service greens.

One of my very favorite pieces of 'flage field gear. Paramarine Jump Case for the M55 Reising Submachine Gun and the M1A1 Carbine.

Here's something I'd never seen before- a Pack with the main body made of both dark and light O.D. canvas.

And here is an Ammo Belt that doesn't show up often; M1912 Mounted Rifle Belt.

This one was made in 1917...good grief, already a hundred years old...

Ill share my two favorite ID'd canteen covers.

 

First is a UNIS marked P2 named to Cpl. Charles E. Flagle (1926-1976) who saw action on Iwo Jima.

 

 

 

Next is another P2 that has been camouflaged, it is named to Ray W. Squires (1921-2015) who saw action on Okinawa

This is probably my favorite piece of modern gear I own. This is a heavily modified Blackhawk! Commando chest rig that was used by US Special Operations forces during the GWOT.

 

The gentleman even went as far as to add a RACK to the back of the chest rig, added pistol magazine pouches to the front pouches, added various extra pockets, and also added a drag handle.

Hi RC, good topic, love the decorated mess gear from member ' Stealthytyler ' , and ' Flage Guy ' I suspect will be a dominant poster to this topic. . . . . . . . . . .

 

here's my original Camp Toccoa tee shirt with flock printed logo, the two 101 patches are just resting on the shirt for the photograph, one being Brit made and the other a white tongue version.
