Wrong lettering embroidered on patch or something else?

This sure does look like one of the earlier USS Grayback submarine patches yet the lettering on it says it is a destroyer patch the DDR 830 USS E. F. Larson. Is this an error patch or something else?

It's definitely a Grayback patch. Even the motto 'De Profundis Futurus' belongs to the Grayback.

As ZMITH stated, a Grayback insignia. My guess is that some shop had this design as a generic/blank patch and someone had their ships name added. The Larson was an anti-sub ship so maybe they thought it would be funny? Either way I like it. Definitely unique.

Youre welcome. Just one of those weird things that only that sailor may know.Try seeing if there is a LARSON site with former shipmates.You maybe able to contact someone for info.
