This is a Navy corpsmen helmet, a mid-war front seam swivel bail with a kind of mud camouflage. Hard to tell if this is caked mud or paint. One can also see blackish paint underneath. There is another identical one, without the initials, in another collection. Some people mistake these for ETO winter camos, but they are not. Recall that Okinawa was a muddy, wet slog of a battle.

It belonged to Louis G. Castellaneta, whose son Dan is the famous voice of Homer Simpson.

Here is his obit: http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburb...218-story.html

"Wow" has already been taken but that was my first reaction too. First time I've seen that type of camo shown & explained. And the provenance... Wow.

Amazing helmet! The Homer Simpson part really put it over the top for me

is the helmet named besides the initials?

Tyler I own this helmet now and spoke with the daughter and she and the family confirmed in many emails this was his helmet and what he went through over there.

I have his full file and a great pic of him
