"SWISS-TEX"!!! That's the brand, that and "Vanguard". I remember operating with many of these ships. Hollister and Henderson were NRF ships out of Long Beach CA. when I was on Bradley. They worked as a team, if one went to sea, they both went. sometimes we cracked that it was to keep an eye on each other in case one sank the other could scream for help. Had a buddy on the Vreeland and worked a lot with Albert David. Memories.......

DPCS as in Data Processing Tech Chief Senior? I was on a FF (1090) in the early 80's never saw one, then saw 4 on a CG... (CG20) including a guy who made Master Chief in 12 years...

Found this one in a box of Boy Scout Patches today. The interesting thing is the ship's motto is "Deter Through Strength". But the patch clearly has a "B" instead of a "D", so it's Beter.

A question for the Navy guys. How would this patch have been worn? Uniform, novelty, or what...?

Scott

These would have worn on Blue utility jackets, or on a Jeans Jacket worn off Duty.

The only "ship" patches worn were/are the UIM's Unit Identification Marks the arcs with the ship or command name.

USS Hooper [DE-1026]

This scarce jacket patch for the destroyer escort U.S.S. Hooper (DE-1026) incorporates the insignia of Escort Squadron 3 (CORTRON III). The Hooper -a Dealey class escort- was commissioned in 1958 and served through active and reserve duty until 1973. During her career she served in both the Atlantic and Pacific, as well as tours to 'Yankee Station' in the South China Sea. After decommissioning she was disposed of through scrapping.

USS VANCE (DER-387) Edsall class destroyer escort converted to radar picket in service 1943-1969

post-2322-0-36662300-1472437763_thumb.jpg

This belonged to a crewman who was aboard during the reign of LCDR Marcus Aurelius Arnheiter, relieved for cause: loss of confidence to command due to exercise of bad judgement and lack of integrity during the Vietnam War
