The first large Destroyer Leader, originally designed as a Hunter-Killer light cruiser

USS NORFOLK (DL-1) In service 1953 to 1970. As with all of the new DL classes, they were also designed to be flagships of Cruiser-Destroyer groups, flotillas and squadrons, having flag staff accommodations aboard. They were also used as flagships for the NATO squadron, STANAVFORLANT and UNITAS/SEATO cruises.
