Frank@hoboken Posted April 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 26, 2017 Anyone have any clue as to what this can possibly be. It was labeled Indian wars but might be Spanish American War. quite puzzled as to the army helmet badge on the side. Thanks. http://www.ebay.com/itm/19th-century-Military-Bicorn-hat-farm-fresh-as-found/282439090438?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43051%26meid%3D0a21aa2db4af4260963f46d1146e1bfa%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D172644787764 http://www.ebay.com/itm/19th-century-Military-Bicorn-hat-farm-fresh-as-found/282439090438?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D43051%26meid%3D0a21aa2db4af4260963f46d1146e1bfa%26pid%3D100033%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D172644787764

tarbridge Posted April 26, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 26, 2017 I would venture to say a marriage has taken place.
Battling Bastard Posted April 26, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2017 This could be a masons hat.

Lee Ragan Posted April 26, 2017 Share #6 Posted April 26, 2017 This is a "Chapeau", but I can't tell which model. It was a full dress hat worn by Army or Navy officers during the early to mid 19th century. I think the Navy used this type hat well into the 20th century. The eagle badge on it is from an 1880's Army full dress helmet.
KurtA Posted April 26, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 26, 2017 The eagle badge on it is from an 1880's Army full dress helmet. It's not a plate used by the US Army (different from the M1872 and M1880 plates). I believe Bannerman's produced this style for any organization that needed some type of military-looking hat badge (e.g., band, militia unit, etc). The Chapeau body itself could be the 1872 US Army Staff Officer Chapeau, but at this point, it's missing so much stuff, it has little or no value. Redlegwolf Posted April 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2017 This is a rigid chapeau used by a fraternal organization with a front plate that looks similar to a m1872 front plate, but was actually used for high school bands.
