"GREETINGS & SALUTATIONS!" The first medal that I know of issued by the United States was the 1879-1882 JeanetteArtic Expedition Medal. The inscription on the reverse read: "In commenoration of perils encountered and as an expression of the high esteem in which Congress holds his services. Act Approved September 30, 1890." The ribbon is white silk with a bar above with the name "JEANETTE" below a North American Bald Eagle. The obverse shows a dog-sled with native Alaskan Indians and an ice-bound sailing ship. The Stryker Frame shows the Jeanette Artic Expedtion Medal as well as these medals: The United States Antartic Expedition (1939 1941), Byrd Antartic Expedition (1928 1930) in bronze, silver, and gold, Byrd Antartic Expedition (1933 1935), and the Peary-Polar Expedition (1905-1909). If you have pictures of other similiar medals for the United States Coast Guard or United States Navy, please feel free to display them here as well! Thank you! think.gif Sarge Booker of Tujunga, California ([email protected]). These are from the collection of a good friend whom I am indebted!
