I recently acquired a 272nd dui off of eBay. It was advertised as a theater made variant. Unlike those shown in the ASMIC infantry reference it has no motto. My question is has anyone seen other examples of this? It is like the dui on the cover of the unit history, with no motto, published prior to the unit's return to the US in September, 1045.

A photograph would help. I found this one on the Internet and supposedly it was made post war in occupied Germany. It is hard to tell as the repair has a glob of solder on the back which obscures the pin and how it was originally fastened to the back. I found another example on the Internet which has the motto but it also looks like a post war German occupation made piece. I'm not an expert but maybe others will give you their opinions.

All 272nd IR DIs that are German made are post war. The one in question is a variation of the 272nd. There are many, but not as many as 273rd IRs.

There is a post war 272nd IR but the design is different, it's CB. and has a HM.
