mdk0911 Posted April 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2017 I was able to get 2 Model 1860 Light Cavalry sabers. One made by Ames Chicopee, Mass and dated 1864 the other by D. J. Millard Company’s manufacturing center in Clayville, New York and dated 1862

gunbarrel Posted April 19, 2017 Share #14 Posted April 19, 2017 Very nice! I got my first CW sword a couple of weeks ago, a Model 1840 Wristbreaker by Seeble & Fisher (sp?).
M24 Chaffee Posted April 23, 2017 Share #15 Posted April 23, 2017 Really nice swords! Cool to still have some leather attached to the Ames scabbard. Frank
Steve Rogers Posted April 23, 2017 Share #16 Posted April 23, 2017 I like the remains of the saber slings on the scabbard of the Ames as well- it has the feel of real veteran bring-back. As I recall, though, that the screw on the side of the scabbard securing the throat marks it as an import scabbard rather than an Ames product. That does not mean it has not been with it since the war, of course. I think only two of the German suppliers made 1860 pattern swords and scabbards, so the scabbard would actually be fairly scarce.
