w10085 Posted April 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2017 I always pay repro prices since I never know. A friends wants it and I want to give both of us a fair price. Thanks in advance!

w10085 Posted April 18, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted April 18, 2017 Is there a good reference on-line to see the stampings? The books I have are not clear. Thanks for the info!
cavsaddle Posted April 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2017 On page 88 of "AMERICAN MILITARY BELTS AND RELATED EQUIPMENT" by R. Stephen Dorsey, is a side by side photo of an original and a repro M 1887 US belt plate. Because of possible copyright issues I'm not posting the photo but will paraphrase the description. It reads "Though the markings are identical in content and format, some originals are more lightly stamped and have finer lines in the letters and numbers. The third line (WORCESTER MASS) on the original runs almost off the metal while the same line in the fake is almost 1/8 inch in front of the edge of the metal". That last description of the positioning of the maker stamp plus the photo of the original which is exactly like yours, in my opinion proves that yours is no doubt an original.
