KASTAUFFER Posted April 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2017 I bought this group at the SOS from a dealer who had just acquired it from an estate. When I saw there were items from 2 individuals, it threw me for a while until I got home and had time to read all the paperwork that came with the group. An an amazing story emerged. On January 11, 1944 the 91st Bomb Group attacked Oschersleben Germany and the crew of the B-17 the "Harass Dragon" did not come home. 7 of the crew were KIA and 3 became POWs. 2nd Lt. Haus , the Navigator was wounded in the leg, bailed out and became a POW. He spent the rest of the war in Stalag Luft 1. On his return he tracked down at least 5 of the families of the other crew members, including the widow of the co-pilot Richard Morgan. in 1946 he married her and raised Richard Morgan Jr. as his own! The Co-Pilot made it out of the burning aircraft alive, but his parachute was on fire. he did not survive the fall. The uniform and the "Britain's Homage book are named to the Co-Pilot. Everything else belonged to the Navigator Lt. Haus. To get a understanding of the complete story, read the newspaper article I have posted. The story is amazing. KASTAUFFER Posted April 3, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 3, 2017 The Co-Pilot's uniform. The 2 missing buttons, the Navigator removed and placed them on his POW veteran's vest.

I thought about replacing them, but I reconsidered after realizing he took them off to use on his vest. Its almost like he was doing it as a tribute to his fellow crewman. I think I will leave it as it is. Kurt
