36thIDAlex Posted April 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 2, 2017 I recently digitized my grandfather's photo albums from his time in Korea with the 5th cavalry regiment, 1st cavalry division. I am trying to recreate his uniform, but I am unsure what the device is on his ridgeway cap. Any assistance would be appreciated. GEN. David R. Atchinson- MO State Guard ACW PVT. John H. Drury- Co. vintageproductions Posted April 2, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 2, 2017 Hard to say for sure but it sure looks like a 5th Cavalry DI, just like what he has on his scarf www.vintageproductions.com "A militaria show is a social event for anti-socials" - A.T. 2008 ASMIC Executive President
36thIDAlex Posted April 2, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted April 2, 2017 Hard to say for sure but it sure looks like a 5th Cavalry DI, just like what he has on his scarf Yeah that's what I thought, but the shape seems more diamond like so I couldn't be sure. I wanted another pair of eyes to look. GEN. David R. Atchinson- MO State Guard ACW PVT. John H. Drury- Co. A, 27th Ky IR ACW Died of Typhoid PVT. Henry E. Thomas- Co. I, 17th Ky IR ACW PVT. Joseph E. PATCHRAT Posted April 2, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 2, 2017 Agree The DI is the 5th CAV . If locally made that can account for the difference in size and shape. PATCHRATASMIC 1729PATCH COLLECTOR -- LETS TRADEE-BAY STORE PATCHRAT68

I am going to start looking for an original one to put in the ridgeway I have in recreating his uniform. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk GEN. David R. Atchinson- MO State Guard ACW PVT.
