River Patrol Posted March 25, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted March 25, 2017 Bob - I'd love to see other items show up from this guy..... Tough name to research since the last name is a very common first name.......
patches Posted March 26, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 26, 2017 i believe this coat may have been worn by one Paul, Alfred L., promoted, Major Art, AUS, 23 January 1964.
River Patrol Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted March 26, 2017 I've been searching for any information on this aviator for years. The unusual last name has made it difficult.....I can't thank you enough! Can I ask what the "AUS" means in this context?
gwb123 Posted March 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2017 AUS = Army of the United States. Another way to say "Regular Army".
gwb123 Posted March 26, 2017 Share #10 Posted March 26, 2017 Finding the early uniforms with color direct embroidered insignia is not easy, but they are out there. Here's a couple of examples I once owned.
River Patrol Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted March 26, 2017 AUS = Army of the United States. Another way to say "Regular Army". Thanks...I had a feeling this was the meaning.
River Patrol Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted March 26, 2017 Gil, I don't think the original post jacket is as early as some of those, but I can't find other color, direct embroidery jungle jackets.....many were recycled (as we all know). Thanks for showing those uniforms! Steve
dskjl Posted March 26, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 26, 2017 These direct embroidered pieces are really something. Nice find.
patches Posted March 26, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 26, 2017 This does a good job in describing the AUS as opposed to RA and NG and AR commisions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_of_the_United_States

atb Posted April 30, 2017 Share #16 Posted April 30, 2017 AUS = Army of the United States. Another way to say "Regular Army". RA = Regular Army AUS is the non-Regular Army, US Army Reserve (USAR or AR), or National Guard (NG). An AUS officer could be integrated into the Regular Army. The source of an officer's commission could be RA, AUS, AR or NG. For enlisted men during the Vietnam War, we were RA (Regular Army), US (Draftees), ER (Reserve), or NG (National Guard).
