Question about stripes on sailor's sleeve in photo

Hi! This is my Grampa, who served in the USNR in the 1950s. Am hoping that someone might help ID those stripes on his shoulder. I was admiring the ribbons on the guy behind him, myself! hee hee

Grand! Thanks so much! I got some discharge records from St. Louis, and it said his rate was RD3. But I didn't know how to tell on the photo. Thanks! So funny, that in the Navy more stripes means a lower grade. I'm used to the Air Corps, where more stripes means a higher grade!

The pic was probably taken earlier if he was discharged as a Radarman 3rd class (E-4)
