General Staff trench clip WWI

Hello

 

Today I received a General Staff trench clip for my collection.

It is 4 inches long and 1 inch wide.

In my understanding the large armbands would be replaced by the trench clips because the armbands could be seen from german snipers and identify the wearer as a important target to shot down. The smaler trench clip protect against that risk.

The trench clips were described in

GENERAL ORDERS No. 134

GENERAL HEADQUARfERS. A. E. F.

France. August 15. 1918

The first time I have seen trench clips in use.

Wow...thank you for the info and picture ...I picked up one of these in a small WWI group but it was red for division. The seller didnt know what it was and neither did I...until I posted it here on the site.Very interesting and informative 1st for me to see them being used. Again thank you for the info
