digi-shots Posted March 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2017 This one has me stumped... the blade is marked, however it has been re-fitted with a bone handle - both the pommel and guard are hammered copper. Unfortunately, the "guard" area covers the stamped name. The knife is a WWII bringback... the ricasso is square and the blade is double edged and has a similar profile as a Fairbairn Sykes knife. I tried to take a close up of the letters that are barely "peeking" out from the copper guard... looks the the first letter is a P or B, 2nd letter an E. Does anyone have any idea of a possible manufacturer? I know this is a long shot, but thought maybe someone here might have a list of blade manufacturers. Thanks for the help and thanks for looking! lambo35 Posted March 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2017 I Think I would take a good steel or brass 1/8" punch and carefully try to tamp the copper down where it rests against the ricasso. Chuck
30-Cal Posted March 20, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2017 Can you post a picture of the full knife?
stealthytyler Posted March 20, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 20, 2017 Could it be an RE? Remington? I'm not a knife guy so sorry if I'm way off.
digi-shots Posted March 20, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 20, 2017 I tried tapping the copper with a squared off wooden dowel.... I'll see if I can move it a tad with a punch. Here's a pic of the whole blade and bone handle. The blade that is showing measures 5 3/4" (which includes 1/4" of the ricasso). The whole blade probably measures at least 6". The photo shows a "ripple" across the ricasso area - it's just the lighting and reflection - it's flat from side to side. The finish is bright and looks more like what you would see on a parade bayonet.
30-Cal Posted March 20, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 20, 2017 Peter Wolter Sohne, Eschweiler? They made German parade and dress knives and marked the blade there but it's just a guess.
digi-shots Posted March 20, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted March 20, 2017 I tapped the copper just enough to barely make out some more letters.... REHWA...N Looks like the full name is REHWAPPEN - a German manufacturer. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!
