KASTAUFFER Posted March 14, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2017 This is probably the rarest POW diary I have found so far. It is even rarer than pow diaries from the Pacific during WWII. Most people have heard of the YMCA " A Wartime Log" POW diaries distributed through Geneva to prisoners held by the Germans during WWII. This diary is the WWI equivalent. It was also printed by the YMCA in Switzerland and called " The Friendship Diary". This example was owned by a soldier who served with the 307th Infantry, 77th division, and was captured June 24th, 1918 after he had been wounded. It is mostly filled with the addresses of fellow POWs and people he met after liberation. He was held at the POW Camp at Rastatt Germany. Rastatt held the largest number of Americans during WWI. After liberation he spent time at various Base Hospitals and then went home in 1919.
