Vincennes Posted March 11, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2017 I guess this would be called trench art. I picked this up at the flea market today. It is the outline of a P-39. I think it is made of aluminum. It measures 3 1/2" long and is less than 1mm thick. I show both sides of the item below.By 1944 only the 82nd and 110th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadrons were still using the P-39 in New Guinea. My Mom could see the P-39's test firing their weapons over Lake Ontario after being flown from the Bell Plant in Niagara Falls. By coincidence my Uncle was in an Engineer unit in New Guinea at least earlier in the war. I wonder how many people just passed that up without looking at it.
