digi-shots Posted March 10, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2017 Recently picked this one up.... looks like a stylized hand cast copy of the regulation pin. This one looks like the "officer's" pin - should be gold, but this one is silver. The badge was first available around the 1977-78 time period. Has anyone ever seen a cast copy ? (it even has the maker's fingerprint etched on the back) Thanks for looking!
MastersMate Posted March 10, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2017 Look up on line, the July 1979 issue of the USN publication ALL HANDS. Around pg 22 in a section titled' Bearings', is an article about the first Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia cast. Quite a neat story of how it was done onboard. Hopefully the picture of the insignia will post up..
