Chris Posted February 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2017 I recently acquired this cap because I had not seen one like it. The only marking is an ink stamp inside that says "X LARGE". There is a Lt. Colonel insignia on the front that looks to be 1930s. The snaps are marked "C U R F". By unbuttoning the strap on the wearer's right, you can pull a wool lined flap across your face and buckle it on the other side forming a mask with the eyes exposed. It's in great shape and a neat cold weather cap. Can anyone tell me about this? I am grateful for any assistance!

rambob Posted March 1, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 1, 2017 Chris, short and sweet you have a Cap, Winter, Lambskin Lined. US Army issued early during WWII. Here is an image of my mint version of the cap and it's QM tag. Your cap would have had a similar QM tag sewn inside. Bob
Chris Posted March 1, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted March 1, 2017 That is super helpful. Nice cap by the way. Thanks for your response! These are interesting caps, but a pretty clumsy design. It would not be easy to manipulate the buttons, buckles etc with numb fingers!
patches Posted March 1, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 1, 2017 Thanks for ID rambob, what made me think Armored, was it's appearance relating to the early doughnut tanker helmet. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17121-pre-ww2-donut-tankers-helmet/
