ken88 Posted February 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2017 Hi, As part of an inheritance I received this American Red Cross dictionary that belonged to my great-grandfather in World War I. I thought I'd share it on here. It's a complete translation from French to Dutch and Dutch to French. It says it was a gift from the American Red Cross on the inside. The dictionary was printed in Paris by the Van Cuyck printing company. I'm amazed at how generous the Americans were for all allied troops, especially at the beginning of the war. I'm sure my great-grandfather who served in the Belgian army at the time was very pleased with it, especially since he served abroad and probably wasn't very good at French. I hope it serves some kind of purpose showing it on here. Thanks for looking Best regards Ken
David D Posted February 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2017 That's a very interesting piece. You are very lucky to own a piece like this that has family connections.
ken88 Posted February 27, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted February 27, 2017 Thank you! I have some other personal records of his which are all related to his time in the army. But I was especially surprised by this piece and the support coming from your nation that early in WWI. Best regards Ken
