I am Lowell's son-in-law (I married his daughter, Carol) and would like to have the scans to remember him and help with my research on him during the war. The copies from this website are relatively poor, and most are hard to read.

I am also trying to decipher the name of the ship on which he went to Scotland. I can make out the USS George, but the last name is not clear. I have searched for all the USS George G--- ships; all I can find is the USS George Washington. If anyone else knows the name, let me know, or if you know where to find the names of the soldiers and the transports they used, let me know. I am also attempting to find the name of his training captain while in basic training at Toccoa, Georgia.

 

To who posed these groupings: If possible, I would like access to clean, high-resolution scans of Lowell Whitesel's Soldier's Handbook pages that show his assignments, Combat, Service Record, Furlouglls, foreign service, Medals, and assignments. It would also be nice to have clean, high-resolution photo scans of his medals and awards.

 

I wish I had spent more time with him talking about what he did in the war, but since I was an outsider (not an army veteran or VFW member), he rarely spoke of it; however, I am a 30 veteran of the Columbus, Ohio Fire Department. It's not the same as combat, but it's still a job many don't want, including some soldiers I have known.
