Picked these up today.

I really do not collect patches . . . . . Until today.

Now I have an instant patch collection.

They also came with a few bonuses which I will explain.

Here they are. Any comments would be appreciated.

I know very little about patches so if there are any good/special ones, please let me know.

DISPLAY #1

At the top of the frame was where I found the surprise.

All 3 frames were Coca Cola frames which were used in the 1940s to display lithographs/posters for their product.

But then I took the patches out of the frame so I could clean the glass.

I lifted up the edge of the cloth covering of the cardboard.

I discovered this . . . . .

At that point I decided that although I usually leave collectibles as I find them, this case was different.

I just could not leave the Coke poster under there.

So I pulled out a few hundred staples . . . by hand and took every patch off.

Then every label.

Then the cloth covering and side pieces.

Unfortunately the posters are riddled with staple holes.

I still would have done it all over again because I couldnt let this piece of history go unnoticed.

BTW, I used a new piece of backing and, due to fading of the cloth, I was able to put every patch and label back exactly as found.

Now, that got me thinking.

These are all Coke frames.

All used to display Coke lithos.

Could there be another poster under one of the other patch displays???

So I took out the next one but that one was different.

The cardboard had a bend in the middle.

I knew unfortunately that this was just a box used as the backing. :(

One more to check.

I had to clean the glass anyway.

So I took the last one out.

I took up the cloth on the corner.

And I noticed that it appeared to be the same material as the other litho.

I took it apart as I did the other one . . . staple by staple.

And . . . .this is what I found.

Yep, another one.

Unfortunately this one had some additional damage.

But you know what, . . . I still would have taken it out.

It still has beauty.

So that is my story.

Please let me know about the patches . . . .

Oh, I forgot to say, these have been together in the displays, probably since the end of the war.

Eric (MasonK) got the fourth (or First, depending on how you look at it) display which was all Infantry patches.

Probably the coolest one of the bunch.

Here is a link to his thread.

Strangely however, his were framed in a different style frame.

Maybe he has a Coke Litho underneath his patches.

Patches aside, Those frames are worth as much as if not more than the advertisements themselves especially if they are Coca Cola marked. We sold a few at auction not too long ago and they did very well. So no matter what you do just don't take any of it for granted.
