BBG Posted January 29, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2017 Hello everyone, I bought these unusual jump wings back in 2003. I was told they were awarded in 1996 to 37 US airborne veterans who made a civilian parachute jump into the Ilopango drop zone El Salvador in 28 mph winds. The wing is silver plated with the El Salvador crest on top. The back is marked with The Phoenix Group. Some were serial numbered, this one is not. I dug it out recently and was trying to do some research, but can't find anything online. Does anyone know anything else? Thanks, Bob

turko Posted February 21, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2017 I have a Soldier of Fortune magazine somewhere from the '80's, and I remember seeing an ad in there for a group that would take veterans to China or somewhere to do jumps and you would get wings. I wonder if this is related somehow? I'll see if I can find it when I get home...
KevinBeyer Posted February 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted February 22, 2017 I did a Google search and I came up with a website that references the drop and has an image depicting wings just like the one you show. I do not know this source, but at the very least I can point you to it. http://www.herbertholeman.com/para/index.html Kevin
BBG Posted February 26, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted February 26, 2017 Thanks for finding this website Kevin. It has some great articles in it. I was beginning to wonder about this wing and the story I was told.
