This is one of my favorite groupings that I have finally pulled out of storage and decided to put on display. This is the uniform grouping belonging to private Emmett Earl Wood who enlisted 20 January 1909 in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Gunner and Sergeant of the Guard as a Private on the USS Washington Armored Cruiser ACR 11. Reading through his muster rolls he had quite a propensity for marksmanship, receiving several monetary prizes from the Marine Corps. That didn't keep him out of trouble however. In May of 1910 he was noted for showing insolence to the Corporal of the Guard because he talked to a prisoner on board the Washington. He became the Sergeant of the Guard as an acting private first class on February 4th 1912. He was discharged 19 January 1913 with a character rating of excellent and was issued Good Conduct Medal #3552. This is a medal I have been trying to find for years.

The lot includes his dress blues blouse which actually still comes with their nomenclature tag and leather interior neck band, his very early dated trousers, a pair of corporal tropical Chevrons for the Marine Corps, a really well used belt, a 1913 dated mess kit tin, and a very early dated high collar overcoat complete with its original cape. For those of you who appreciate the OLD Corps, this is a really cool grouping. I hope you enjoy it.
