Siamundo Posted January 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2017 I was hoping someone might be able to educate me as to when each of these two different patch designs was worn by Navy Fighter Squadron 96, VF-96. Most on-line reference I can find to VF-96 patches will always show the version with the falcon in flight. Could they both have been worn at the same time? Prior to VF-96 being designated as such in 1962, the squadron was designated as VF-142 from 1953-1962 and their patch is very similar to the falcon on the arm version. Could the falcon on the arm version actually be VF-142 and not VF-96? All of these patch images were taken from the bluejackets website. Thanks for any information. CROC Posted January 9, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2017 Hi The "Fighting 96' patch was worn by the 1968 WestPac cruise starting in january 1968 aboard Big E. Prior this cruise the patch used from 1 june 1962 was the one in the middle. As you already found the last one was worn prior 1962 when VF 96 was designated VF 142.
