WAHOOMAN Posted January 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2017 I picked this up today at a local garage sale. It is a piece of barbed wire from the DMZ in Korea. I believe these certified pieces of barbed wire from the DMZ were sold or given to veterans of the Korean War during the 50th Anniversary of the conflict. A basic search on google resulted some of these pieces being sold on various internet sites. Has anyone on the forum seen one of these pieces? This item has a serial number of 020242. Ben@HI Posted January 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 8, 2017 they gave me one when i was stationed in Korea in 2005. just about everyone i served with in 2nd ID got one. I don't know how long the Army was giving them away to incoming personnel but I know as of 2006 they were still doing it.

AZ Abn Posted January 9, 2017 Share #7 Posted January 9, 2017 This is what I know, I spent multiple tours in Korea over 3 different decades, 80s, 90s, 2000s. Did not receive any of these from the Patriots and Veterans Assoc during 80s or 90s. During my 2005 - tour, the Korean Patriots and Veterans Assoc annually gave these to USFK. USFK would break down to components, components would distro down thru DIV, BDE, BN, right down to individual service member. At least with the Army, normally received once a year, the 1SG would get a bunch of these and he would distro them down to the Soldiers. I often went dumpster diving and found some really good stuff. I was looking in the dumpsters one day and found 6 of these that someone cleaning out their office on an upcoming PCS threw into the dumpster, instead of giving to Soldiers. Yes, these are sold at the souvenir shops adjacent to the DMZ tours areas in Paju City, Korea and in gift and plaque shops in Itaewon, TDC, etc. Rather common. GUDMAR1975 Posted January 10, 2017 Share #8 Posted January 10, 2017 My USAF step son in Korea sent me one a few months ago. Against his mother's objections, I displayed it in our home.
