The Veterans History Project collection# AFC/2001/001/54269 is now digitized by the Library of Congress. This video interview of a 91st BG combat crew member "Mac" who went down in the B-17G Champagne Girl over Switzerland after colliding with another B-17 and then "Mac's" crew were all interned in neutral Switzerland. How he tried to escape when he could have sat out the war in safety. The truth about allied service men's treatment, interned in "neutral Switzerland".

"Mac" gives thumbs up next to B-17E 41-9210 in 1999. We were both going to volunteer to help finish FHC's restoration of 41-9210 but that plane I believe is now lost in misplaced parts and priorities!

There is about a 90 second delay to the count down of the start of the video and the audio needs full volume or an external speaker. I'm an amateur film producer ( as the interviewer) but anyone can do this for a Veteran with the materials and guidance the VHP provides on the website. "Mac" does have some interesting comments about Swiss internment. The comments about escaping start around 48 min into the recording. The mistakes they made in their failed escape and how treatment changed from the relative freedom of Swiss Internment to stockade confinement, and then liberation. What influence the Germans had on "neutral" Switzerland during the liberation, how the Luftwaffe viewed "liberated" American Combat Crewmen. Donald McBey "Mac" re-enlists in the post WWII USAAF until the new USAF is formed as a crew member on B-17H's SAR (Search and Rescue) and a ground crew chief of a Generals personal B-17 shuttle plane.
