Gerradtgrant Posted December 24, 2016 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2016 I came across these two patches today had never seen them before ( which doesn't mean a whole lot) the price seemed right so I picked them up. The first was quoted as " Manhattan project" and the second as " Mediterranean allied air Force". Is this correct? What branch and era are these patches? Sully Posted December 24, 2016 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2016 First patch is the Manhattan Project but you have it upside down. Looks to be WW2 vintage.
ocsfollowme Posted December 24, 2016 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2016 The top one needs to be rotated 180 degrees but it is the Manhattan Project patch. The bottom is the mediterranean allied air force.

Dave Posted December 24, 2016 Share #6 Posted December 24, 2016 A recommendation for you...invest $20 and buy this book. It will help you out immensely with patches! https://www.amazon.com/Shoulder-Sleeve-Insignia-Forces-1941-1945/dp/0961888334
blkjack07 Posted December 24, 2016 Share #7 Posted December 24, 2016 both are air corps and are WW2 era. I thought the Manhattan Project was operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.
ocsfollowme Posted December 24, 2016 Share #8 Posted December 24, 2016 you are correct blkjack07. I stand corrected. From 1942 to 1946, the project was under the direction of Major General Leslie Groves of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I always see the patch listed with the AAF sections in almost every books....yes....all a part of the Army then.
