Coming Clean - Yours Truly Goofed (About 50 Years Ago)

I was going through my patches and came across this one, which has a story behind it, and I want to come clean with my newfound militaria friends. I can only use the excuse that I was young and impulsive. I was assigned to the 44th Missile Maintenance Squadron at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. I worked in maintenance supervision and one day my boss brought me a package to put together to send to 15AF for approval of a squadron patch. When I looked at the design it said "44th MIMS". I said to myself, 'this can't be right, it just doesn't flow correctly!' I changed it to "44th MMS" and screwed up a generation of patches. I just didn't know at the time that MMS stood for MUNITIONS MAINTENANCE SQUADRON, so when you see this patch it is not MMS (in reality), but MIMS. Even though I felt lower than a snake's belly, everybody was gracious and the erroneous patch went on uniforms anyway.

I will say that my boss cussed for about 30 seconds, busted out laughing then told me 'in the future RTFM!'
