Cleaning Rod Cover - Does anybody know what the heck this is?

Recommended Posts

I've had this odd piece of web gear for several years and had forgotten all about it. It measures 14 inches long and 5 inches high at the highest point. There's a faint ink stamp on the reverse side that reads "MRT". That stamp is the same size and bluish-purple color of WW2 era ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL stamps seen on other web gear. I'm not sure what the C123777 stamp signifies, but am guessing that maybe it's some sort of quartermaster catalogue number?? It has a TALON zipper, and whatever it is, it's in stone mint/unissued condition and has never held a piece of equipment. Any opinions are appreciated.....except the first person that says its a GI Golf Club cover. That person is a jack-tard! Slap yourself now!

I believe it is a case for a .30 rifle cleaning rod.I saw one in a vets items at an auction.A friend of mine bought it and got around $25 for the complete kit. They also turn up on ebay at times. The one I saw had the sectional cleaning rods and a rod with handle made of aluminium in a shape similiar to a small football.

Say, isn't that one of those G.I. golf club covers? Seriously, the "MRT" indicated it's been treated with an anti-mildew compound at some time. If the "MRT" has a date it is when the item was treated and not when it was made.
